Advancing the Possibilities

One has to wonder where it is all leading. The human race continues to surge forward in its actions and discoveries. Accelerating with it, and perhaps even enabling it, is a similar non-stop advance in our technology innovations and capabilities. Indeed, where is it all leading?

Our limits are in fact set by our imagination, with our technology often being the stuff that brings our imagination to life. Thus, future leaders should actively be assessing whether or not the level of their imagination is now where it needs to be. For example, are you thinking more about what the technology does, or are you thinking more about what the technology (or any technology for that matter) could do?  Are you thinking more about what your company does now, or are you instead thinking about what it could do in the future…as well as what it will take to get there?

General Colin Powell once stated that real leaders exemplify not only intelligence and judgment, but also the critical capacity to anticipate and see around corners. To do so requires a proactive stance regarding the awareness, assessment, and adjustments needed to capture any value possibilities that the future might hold. How are your skills there holding up?

Throughout 2017, the CIO Solutions Gallery will be conducting a series of vital and informative programs on the theme of Advancing The Possibilities, wherein participants will gain a better appreciation of not only what is coming but also a better appreciation of just how its value might be captured.

The CIO Solutions Gallery series is an ongoing nationally acclaimed forum where senior IT leaders and their business peers come together in a comfortable setting to share their experiences and insights, as well as collectively and collaboratively attack common issues. Uniquely organized around peer learning, this provocative program has received high praise among participating CIOs and other senior executives in the technology and/or operations leadership community. It helps to build an improved and creative personal network of peers and executives devoted to sharing best practices, renewing their skills on an ongoing basis, and raising the level of technical literacy and effectiveness within their organizations.

There is no cost to invited senior leaders. Sponsoring opportunities are available for invited technology product and service providers, allowing them to also be fully engaged in these important discussions.

As today’s senior leaders look toward the future, it is important for them to differentiate between

technology trajectory stories and technology transition realities. Without question our futures will be very different from today, so the existential exercise of determining just who we are – or who we now need to be – will become a real-time effort going forward. Self-perceptions and narrow perspectives can be limiting for those who do not fully appreciate what lies ahead.  Senior leaders must be challenging themselves to evolve concerning the visions, the skills, the products and the activities that are very quickly becoming new baseline requirements.
