How We Deliver Courses Online

All of our online courses are delivered using the university's Learning Management System, called Carmen. It is available 24/7 and accessible anywhere that there is internet service. It's completely tablet and mobile friendly, and web based so there is no need to download software.

Within each course in Carmen is where students access recorded course lecture videos, course materials, use discussion boards, upload assignments and much more. Information on how to use Carmen is made available upon enrollment in the program so students have plenty of time to become familiar with this system.

Online Orientation

Our orientation eases students into the world of online learning, tells them what to expect, gives an overview of some of the tools and technologies used, as well as connect with fellow students. We provide all the information and training necessary for a successful start. The orientation materials and all other information are available online through Carmen after students are admitted and have been set up with an account to access OSU services.

Course Offering Dates

Each online course offering operates with a specific start date and end date. Students must complete each course during the specific time frame. Access to the online course and materials is removed when the course ends.

Student and Technical Support

Students are supported by staff in the Professional & Distance Education Programs Office who understand the complexities of balancing work and life while learning online. The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) at Ohio State, provides a 24/7 IT service support help desk to assist students with Carmen, email, and password assistance.
